Key costume characteristics for the Eleventh Doctor:
- Bow tie
- Suspenders
- Jacket
- Green sonic screwdriver
and sometimes...
- a fez
Overall, it's a pretty simple costume to tackle. White onesie, black pants and a few homemade accessories, and we're ready to rock! GERONIMO!
I sewed a simple fez out of red felt. There are free printable patterns online for making an adult-sized fez, but none for babies. Making a baby-sized pattern would have took a bit of math but, luckily, I had the internet to help with that! This website calculates the measurements for a flat top cone, including the important arc angle.
With the calculated angle, R1 and R2, I was able to use a compass to draw on a piece of paper the pattern for my baby fez.
I made a practice bow tie from maroon felt following the tutorial on this website. It turned out pretty cute, but it was pretty 2-dimensional and plain. To add some oomf, I decided to basically double the pattern, folding over the edges and making it more 3-dimensional.
I tasked Dan to make a sonic screwdriver. The Tenth Doctor's screwdriver is blue, but the Eleventh's is green! Dan, the genius that he is, decided to tape one of our green hospital-grade silicon soothers to the end of a small LED flashlight. Marcus was completely enthralled by the shining green light!
The Suspenders - cut out long strips of red felt and safety-pinned them to the white onesie.
The Jacket - found a brown corduroy jacket on our local Baby Shop n' Swap Facebook group.
The Shoes - already had some Converse-style shoes in the closet (which are actually worn by the Tenth Doctor).
