Found a fellow-mama on a shop n' swap Facebook page advertising handmade crocheted hats for kids. I immediately thought of the one hat I've been wanting for Marcus - a Jayne hat!
Jayne is a character from the cult classic sci-fi TV show "Firefly". He is known for being an arsenal-loving badass. He also loves his mom, who sends him a not-so-badass hat in the mail. The hat has become renowned in the Firefly fandom. I will admit - I am a fan girl.
Turns out this fellow-mama, Gena, is a Firefly fan, too, and knew exactly what it was I was requesting! She crafted this beautiful hat for us. I commissioned it extra big so that little Marcus can grow into it. Such a little tough guy. ;)
I told Gena that I was interested in learning how to knit but didn't know where to start. She said that crocheting is pretty cool because it comes together quickly. She is self-taught, using YouTube videos for instruction and inexpensive hooks from the dollar store. I am inspired! There might be a crochet blog post in the future...
